POR QUÉ LEER EN VOZ ALTA A LOS PEQUES

Beneficios de Leer a los niños en voz alta / Benefits of Reading out to kids

------------------------------------------------

I admit that in the age of the tablets is difficult to get children to read for a while in traditional format, but it is a basic task as read will be critical in much of his or her school days. To do so with we the adults must try a little and look for material that catches their attention: for some would be dinosaurs, for others superheroes, manga or fairies.

From "Reading is fundamental" give us some ideas about reading out although they know and read on their own , because it is an activity that helps them in several ways:
  • Associate reading with an enjoyable activity .
  • Strengthens the habit of listening .
  • Expand vocabulary.
  • Learn new concepts.
  • They learn about the structure of stories.
  • They can explore new topics and locations .
  • Authors and discover what styles they like most .
  • It can be a motivation to read independently .

How can we help in this task?
  • Creating a nice environment: no noise, comfortable and choosing the right material.
  • Present the book that we will read: title and author. We can ask them if they know or see if you can guess what this is.
  • If the book has artwork (highly recommended for the youngest) children see them as the adult reads .
  • Read slowly, with clear voice and with different tones of voice to make it more lively.
  • If there are different characters , use a whole different for each voice.
  • If the opportunity presents itself reproduces the sounds of animals, environment, etc. .
  • If you wish, you can arrange for everyone to read a page.
  • If there is a word they do not understand , they can stand up and explain in their own words .
  • Then they can talk about what they have read , as one speaks about the movie you just saw .
  • One can relate this book with another that was read in the past and talk about it.
